Venice High School Sailing Team

The Venice High School Sailing Team is a competitive club sport for experienced sailors who want to represent Venice High School through interscholastic sailing. The team is open to Venice High School students, as well as eligible homeschool and local private school students who are zoned for Venice High School. Sailors compete in regattas throughout Florida under the South Atlantic Interscholastic Sailing Association (SAISA) while developing advanced racing skills, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship.

The program includes both Varsity and Development (JV) teams. The Development Team is designed for newer racers, including eligible 8th-grade sailors, and focuses on building the skills and confidence needed to compete at the varsity level. Practices emphasize boat handling, racing tactics, teamwork, fitness, and sportsmanship while preparing sailors for SAISA competition.

VYBA provides all boats and equipment, so personal sailboats are not required. Sailors are expected to attend weekly practices, participate in team fundraising, and demonstrate commitment, teamwork, and a positive attitude throughout the season.

Season: August 24th – May 15th
(Follows the Sarasota County Public School calendar.)

Practice:
Mondays | 3:00 PM – 7:30 PM
Winter hours: Practice ends at 7:00 PM.

Tuition

• $725 per sailor (Full Season)
• Payment due by September 1

Optional Add-On

• School Year Club 420 Racing Team: $315 per sailor

Tuition Includes:

• Weekly team practices
• SAISA regatta entry fees
• One official Venice High School Sailing Team race jersey
• Use of all VYBA boats and racing equipment

Additional team apparel, including T-shirts, sweatshirts, and other merchandise, will be available for purchase.

Requirements & Expectations

• Personal sailboats are not required. VYBA provides all boats and racing equipment.
• Sailors are expected to attend weekly practices. Regular attendance is required for regatta eligibility.
• Participation in regattas is determined by the coaching staff based on attendance, readiness, team needs, and weather conditions.
• Parent and sailor participation in team fundraising is expected to help support travel and program expenses.
• Parent chaperones are required for regattas and overnight travel when applicable.

What to Bring to Practice

• Refillable water jug (water fountain available for refills)
• Snack (no refrigeration available)
• U.S. Coast Guard-approved Type III life jacket with whistle attached
• Closed-toe shoes (no Crocs or flip-flops)
• Sunscreen
