Scholarship Program Information

VYBA Scholarship Guidelines

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Venice Youth Boating Association (VYBA) offers a limited number of need-based scholarships for our sailing programs. These scholarships are made possible through the generosity of donors and community partners, and we strive to support as many deserving sailors as possible within our financial means.

⚓ Scholarship Availability

  • Scholarships may be partial or full, depending on available funding and the applicant's demonstrated financial need.

  • Whenever possible, we request that families contribute a portion of the program tuition, even if receiving a scholarship. Payment is due prior to the start of the class.

Application Requirements

  • A formal scholarship application must be submitted at least three (3) weeks prior to the start date of the program for which assistance is being requested.

  • Scholarships do not automatically renew. A new application must be submitted for each program or season.

Scholarship Renewal & Limitations

  • Students may be awarded one full scholarship per season. Any additional scholarships within the same season will be considered partial.

  • Scholarships are awarded on a seasonal basis (e.g., summer, school year). A student receiving a scholarship in one season must reapply if enrolling in a future season.

Examples for Clarity:

  1. Summer Progression:
A beginner student on a full or partial scholarship who wishes to take an advanced summer class must submit a new application and may only be eligible for a partial scholarship.

  2. School Year Enrollment:
A student on scholarship during one school year who wishes to continue into the next school year program must reapply.

  3. Multiple Summer Camps:
A student on a full scholarship for one summer camp who wishes to attend a second summer session will be considered for a partial scholarship.

  4. Season Change (Summer to School Year):
A student who receives a full scholarship for a summer camp and then enrolls in the school year program would be eligible for a new full scholarship, as this is considered a different season.

Important Notes:

  • Scholarships are limited and awarded based on both need and availability of funds.

  • Submission of an application does not guarantee a scholarship.

  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.

  • All information provided is confidential and used solely for determining scholarship eligibility.

By signing and submitting a VYBA Scholarship Application, the applicant and the sailing student agree to the rules of conduct and safety equipment required for all sailing students, without exception. Our Sailing Program Director will communicate approval for scholarships directly to the applicant. Any scholarship awarded is contingent on the sailor’s active involvement in the program. If the sailor does not show up for the start of the program that scholarship is awarded for, Venice Youth Boating Association reserves the right to transfer scholarship to another sailor on our scholarship waiting list. All financial information and the documentation required in submission of a Scholarship Application shall be held in strict confidence by VYBA, and it shall be destroyed immediately after a scholarship decision is made. VYBA shall never divulge the names of sailors or their families receiving scholarships to anyone, including other sailors and sailors’ parents, and members of VYBA board of directors, other than those board members on the Scholarship Committee that shall not include parents of sailors.
