Adult Adult Summer Learn to Sail Classes

Summer classes for Adult Learn to Sail will occur on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:00 - 9:00 pm.

The classes will be taught by US Sailing Certified Instructors with on land information given at the Venice Youth Boating Association and on water lessons held in Roberts Bay. Adults taking the class can expect to learn how to rig, launch, sail, dock, and de-rig a boat. The boats used for this class are known as 420s and measure 4.2m in length. They take two adults to a boat, so consider signing up with a friend! We will have partners available to you if you sign up solo though. This boat is great for learning all of the introductory aspects of sailing.

Please be aware that you will be required to capsize and pass a swim test in the first class. We require all students to wear closed toe shoes (not Crocs or flip flops) and we are happy to provide recommendations on good water-friendly shoes. We also ask that everyone brings a life jacket to every class. Our Adult Sailing Classes follow the US Sailing guidelines on requiring a US Coast Guard Approved Type 3 PFD. You can determine if the lifejacket is the correct fit and type by looking on the interior information panel where the user height, user weight, and type of lifejacket is specified.

Recommended materials include:
  • Refillable Water Bottle
  • Sunscreen
  • Appropriate Sun Protection (Sunglasses, Hat, UPF Protective Shirts)
